Disaster Guide for Realtors

Disaster Guide for Realtors

Most of the Houston community is now in the process of recovery and rebuilding. It will take a long time. The impact of the storm is both severe and long-term.

As a Realtor, it becomes quite clear to me that a person’s livelihood can be dramatically affected in a very short time as a result of a significant event like this one. Your own home may be flooded. Your client’s home may be flooded. Your transactions in process are now in jeopardy. The potential homes for buyers have just disappeared (if the buyers haven’t already). Your ability to generate income may be changed for a long, long, time.

Inman published a guide for Realtors to use to help get through this. It offers way to keep client-focused to help them through their pain. https://www.inman.com/2017/08/31/keeping-your-business-afloat-a-disaster-guide-for-real-estate-agents/

One of the things we have done, along with many other Keller Williams and Buffini members, is to provide larger-than-normal referrals to Houston-based agents to refer business to other parts of the country. People are going to want to leave the area for various reasons. They are looking out for their own family’s needs. These referrals will allow for additional income to come to Houston agents who may not be able to generate enough local income.

It’s a start. The dust still needs to settle. We know the people of Texas have a spirit that is that of a survivor and not a victim.
